Mango Carrot Smoothie

mango smoothie

This smoothie will keep you full and satisfied for a few hours to help with the snacking problem some of us have. It has a protein rich nut butter instead of powder and the mango itself is packed with over 20 vitamins and minerals. It’s loaded with anti-oxidants, classifying mango as a “super-food” and we all MUST have those on our daily intake lists!

I use frozen mango. All frozen fruits give a better value as well. More nutrients are kept intact by freezing right after being picked. The longer a fruit (or vegetable) sits after picking, the more its nutrition value depletes. After calculating harvest, travel and shelf time, your best bet is frozen! Unless you live in a sunny orchard and if that’s the case, you have way better access than I do and need to be giving us tips on what to do with all that beautiful, luscious fruit! We will certainly appreciate your advice:)

As for the nut butters, let’s see: we have cashew, almond and peanut butters. There are more exotic (expensive) butters but the 3 mentioned above are always available on your (you-know-what-mart) store shelves. Just make sure the only ingredient listed is exactly what you want – a nut butter!

The milk used is your choice. Of course. This is your smoothie and you make it one that is going to be fun to have, over and over again! Mix and match all things fruity, proteiny and milky to make it as tasty as you like. Or, use a freshly squeezed juice, just trying to keep it simple and do-able. I like the almond milks because they have lots of calcium and I want to believe are pure from all non-essentials. Like hormones, chemical influences, all the things we don’t want in our daily lives (things I don’t know enough to say but do not want), etc. You know what I mean!

I am so not an expert and would love any and lots of feedback on things I’ve spouted above. I love to learn new things daily and I know you are full of interesting ideas and knowledge to share with me. Thanks ahead of time for your input! Now, where were we?? Oh, yeah, here’s that long-awaited recipe. I believe it was a…….

Mango Carrot Smoothie
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 and a half tablespoon of almond butter
1/2 cup grated carrot (or sliced)
3/4 cup frozen chunk mango
Zip around in your Ninja or Magic Bullet until smooth. Be sure to pulse first so as not to burn your motor up! If you use fresh fruit, just add ice cubes until the consistency you like is achieved.
Whew, what a long-winded little recipe!! Hope you try it and love it and share all the variations you come up with here on The Planner’s Plate!
