Happy New Year!

A few days late. Well, out with the old and in with the new, as they say!

I’ve entered into 2017 quietly this year.

Admittedly, it was a long time coming. I have spent almost every year waiting on that last minute to roll over into the next year. This year, I was asleep by 11:15.

In my early more colorful days, before love, marriage, and kids, I spent most New Year’s Eve nights dancing the night away and ringing in the new year with a glass of champagne or two. Or more. And a kiss if I was lucky.

This year, the hubs and I decided to stay home. No party. No plans. Just a quiet night at home watching movies. It was exactly what we needed.

As far as resolutions for the new year? None really. I think I just set myself up for failure….eat healthier, lose some pounds…nah. Resolutions have really never worked for me.

I DO, however, have a word for the year. Instead of resolving to do something, I chose a word that I would remember any time I start to make a decision.

Yep, Boundaries. This comes from being the person that always wants to make people happy. The person that has a hard time saying ‘no’ to others.

I love people. I want to help others. Always. It makes ME happy. But there are always going to be those times when I jump in with my heart, instead of thinking about it with my head first, and biting off a little more than I bargained for. I will still serve. I will still help others. But, at 50, I need some boundaries, right?

So I’ll step into 2017 with a happy heart, a healthy family, and TONS of gratitude for what I have. Ben and I will be empty nesters in a few years. So, I’m going to take this year and use my boundaries so I can delight in the things around me while I still can.

What are your resolutions or words for the new year?
